Using the CED Render Farm
Prerequisites
- A CED Computing + Printing Account is required to use the Render Farm. Learn more »
- The CED Render Farm only accepts Rhino 8 files. Rhino 5, 6, or 7 files are not compatible.
- As of Spring 2024, the CED Render Farm uses the rendering engine built into Rhino called Rhino Render. Note: As of Rhino version 7, Rhino Render is built on the Cycles render engine which is developed by the Blender Project.
Why use the Render Farm?
Use the CED Render Farm to render your Rhino 8 projects "in the cloud" in less time than it would take to render them on the local machine, all while keeping our lab/studio computers available for others to use.
Prepare File for Submission
- Log into a computer in a CED studio or computer lab.
- In the RENLIC (Z:) network share, create a folder with the same name as your Calnet ID, e.g. Z:\[username]\...
- In the folder you just created, make a folder called "textures", e.g. Z:\[username]\textures\... (OPTIONAL)
Submit File for Rendering
- Open Rhino file from the Z:\ drive
- Click on the Deadline button to open submitter
- Fill out the following areas
- Comment (optional, but recommended)
- Department (your academic department or major)
- Output file (must be in your folder)
- Verify that "Rhino Render" is selected in the "Renderer" drop-down menu.
- Select proper view pane for rendering
- Hit submit button
Check Job status
From the start menu, locate the Deadline Monitor icon under the ThinkBox folder and select it. (ThinkBox is under the letter "T".) This is where you can check on your render status.
NOTE: You will NOT see the progress bar move until your project is complete. This does not mean your job isn't running. Please do not submit your job more than once.
