Closed Captioning Videos

Follows are instructions for FREE and PAID resources for video captioning.  For short, instructional videos, the FREE option should be fine.  For symposiums, lectures and the like, you will need to use the PAID option through the College.

FREE VIDEO CAPTIONING ON YouTube

If you do not have a YouTube account, you will need to create one.

  1. Upload your video to YouTube.
  2. Instructions for Automated Captions: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6373554?hl=en
  3. Instructions for Manually created Captions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCZ-cxfxzvk

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you review the closed captions especially if you use the automated version.  They can be pretty poor and will need correcting before you ask students to view the video.

PAID VIDEO CAPTIONING ON Vimeo

If you want to shoot a symposium, lecture, or other professional event, you should plan on using the College's Vimeo Closed Captioned Contract. This is a fee based option and you will need to provide a chart string.  For information and processing in Vimeo, contact Jeff Allen, AV/IT Manager. This option is NOT self-serve.
